Former Dutch ace makes Eredivisie connection that could aid Liverpool hunt for Arne Slot

Arne Slot backed to succeed at Liverpool

Liverpool FC are in the market looking to replace Jurgen Klopp, who is set to leave Anfield Stadium at the end of the ongoing campaign

; however, they are struck by a bit of a managerial target merry-go-around, and Arne Slot is now among the names linked with a move to Merseyside.

With Klopp leaving the club after five glorious years, the pressure on his replacement will be massive. Initially, the Reds targeted former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League. Though Alonso decided to extend his time at Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool, then, moved to Sporting Lisbon’s Rúben Amorim. While the 39-year-old is an exciting option, since his links with a move to Merseyside, transfer guru David Ornstein has suggested he be the favorite to replace David Moyes at West Ham.

This brings us to Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.

He was desired by Liverpool’s league rivals Tottenham last summer after guiding Feyenoord to their first league title in six years; however, he chose to extend his stay with the Dutch club with a new three-year contract. And he has now been heavily linked with a move to the Merseyside Reds and taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

Former Ajax and Inter Milan midfielder Wim Jonk has backed Liverpool to appoint Arne Slot at the helm. He is convinced that the 45-year-old has massive managerial potential, as he compares the Reds with Feyenoord insisting how he brought the face back to his current employers and how they progressed under him.

Former Netherlands international Wim Jonk has backed Slot to succeed at Liverpool.

‘He gave Feyenoord a face,’ Jonk said of Slot on Ziggo Sport’s ‘Rondo’.

‘Arne has made enormous strides, so I would like that. Liverpool is also a bit like the Feyenoord of England.’

From what Jonk suggests, Slot looks like a candidate who has done well in his current job and he acknowledges the progress of club under his 45-year-old tutelage. This is a link that would be an interesting one to keep an eye on going into the off-season; we should see how it prospers.
