Liverpool managerial target Ruben Amorim could do a Xabi Alonso

Beloved Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp sent shockwaves through Anfield earlier this year when he announced his departure. Since then, the hunt for his successor has been a rollercoaster ride for the Reds.

Initially, all eyes were on Bayer Leverkusen’s boss, Xabi Alonso. With his revered history as a midfield maestro at Liverpool, Alonso seemed the perfect fit to fill Klopp’s shoes. The speculation reached fever pitch, with many fans convinced he was destined for a return to Anfield.

However, hopes were dashed when Alonso pledged his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen, leaving Liverpool scrambling to find their new leader.

Since then, the search for Klopp’s replacement has been a whirlwind of rumours and uncertainty, as Liverpool navigates the challenging task of finding someone to carry on the Klopp legacy.

Amorim handed Deja-vu to Liverpool

In recent weeks, all eyes have been on Ruben Amorim as the leading contender to take the helm at Liverpool. The Sporting CP manager even engaged in talks with the Reds’ hierarchy, fueling speculation of an imminent move.

Amorim’s style on the pitch aligns closely with the high-energy, pressing game synonymous with Klopp’s Liverpool. With a penchant for aggressive off-the-ball tactics and lightning-fast counterattacks, he seemed like the ideal successor to continue Liverpool’s thrilling brand of football.

However, Amorim appears likely to deal a blow reminiscent of Xabi Alonso’s snub. According to Portuguese media (via X), there is a chance that Amorim will commit his immediate future to Sprting than move elsewhere.

The Reds have quickly regrouped after setbacks with previous candidates, with Feyenoord’s Arne Slot now emerging as the frontrunner for the managerial role.

Despite their disappointment in recent dealings, Liverpool is cautiously optimistic about their negotiations with Slot. The club, however, is keeping their options open due to past experiences.
