Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp apologised to the fans for the horrible performance in the Merseyside derby loss to Everton
Jurgen Klopp apologised to the Liverpool fans for the team’s failure to perform in the Merseyside derby against Everton. The Reds lost 2-0 to their local rivals at Goodison Park in the Premier League clash, costing them the title.
Liverpool had already given up a lot of ground after dropping four points against Manchester United and Crystal Palace. The loss against Everton puts them out of the Premier League title race with only four games to go.
The Reds have only themselves to blame for their current predicament as they lacked conviction, composure and ideas against Everton. The Toffees scored two goals from the set-piece situations during the game as Liverpool’s defence struggled in aerial battles.
Speaking to reporters after the game (h/t Fabrizio Romano’s X account), Klopp apologised to the fans for the horrible performance. He said:
“I can only apologize for today to the people. Everyone who is with us knows how hard it is as well but for other people it is especially hard. We should have done better but we didn’t, that is why we lost”.
The social media thoroughly criticised several first-team players for their lacklustre performance as the Reds showed complacency and sabotaged themselves. Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez rightfully faced criticism for his continuous failure to finish clear-cut goalscoring chances.
However, Mohamed Salah continued to be the main culprit of the attacking department with another poor performance. Salah has stacked up incredible goals and assist tally this season but failed yet again during the high-stake games.
Liverpool faces a massive problem when the 31-year-old fails to score as he has provided nothing in the overall buildup. Salah has to be fed on the feet around the threatening areas for him to score goals or provide assistance.
However, the Egyptian has drastically lost his pace and finesse to shrug off tight marking or beat opponents in duels. Liverpool’s right flank has provided nothing in the games where they have failed miserably, helping the opposition to squeeze spaces.
Throughout his tenure at the club, a huge section of the fanbase and Klopp have backed Curtis Jones. Nevertheless, the Englishman has displayed his limitations since returning from injury, staying invisible in many phases of the game.

Jones is a good player but lacks the speciality to be a regular first-team member of a big club, his inability to perform defensive duties and limitations on the offensive side of the game make people question his influence.
Captain Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ibrahima Konate also failed to carry out their duties while Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role in the second goal got the thorough attention of the media. The saddest part for the fans is that Klopp deserved more from these players yet he is the one apologising because he trusted them to do better.
