A potential Liverpool lineup under Arne Slot next season

Liverpool see themselves linked with a move for Feyenoord Rotterdam boss Arne Slot. The 45-year-old Dutchman has a top-class time managing the Eredivisie. The defending champions trail the current term to high-flying PSV Eindhoven but that does not take away from Slot’s work.

Slot prefers to play a 4-2-3-1 formation in attack which becomes a 4-4-2 in defensive transition. His full-backs also contribute in attack, as they invert and form an overload in the middle of the park. Slot is very similar to Jurgen Klopp in the way he likes a high-pressing attacking style of play, but is much more flexible tactically.

Let us for the sake of a few tweaks in the potential lineup assume that Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez are not a part of the Liverpool squad for the upcoming season, although it is highly unlikely that we let them both go over the summer. Let us also assume Slot will push for at least one of his players from Feyenoord to join him on Merseyside. Santiago Gimenez. A top-class clinical striker who does not miss a lot of chances. Irrespective of the name, the description should be enough for the Reds to get him on board.

Luis Diaz is linked with a move to Barcelona. With a new manager incoming at Liverpool, his future at the club also remains uncertain. Cody Gakpo will have a nailed-on spot in case Diaz frees up that position. Let’s see how Liverpool could line up next season under Slot.

Uncertainties surround the Reds!

This must make it clear that we need a starting central midfielder and a right-winger as priority signings. Curtis Jones, as we saw against Everton, was way off the mark. It is easy to forget that Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho is having a top-class season at Hull City and could return to make a real impact in Red.

Sepp van den Berg, who is on loan at Mainz 05 is also having a very good season and could slot into the team and play second-fiddle to the skipper. Ryan Gravenberch is also a decent option in the middle of the park but is far from starting quality yet. It remains to be seen if Slot can come into the team and motivate his fellow Dutchman to explore his true potential.

The challenge for Slot, should he take charge at Liverpool, would be to build on the existing strengths while introducing his tactical nuances and player acquisitions to elevate the team’s performance. His ability to motivate and get the best out of his players and his tactical acumen could prove crucial in shaping Liverpool’s future. He has a strong foundation laid out by outgoing boss Jurgen Klopp.

While the prospect of Arne Slot taking over at Liverpool remains speculative, it’s an exciting proposition that offers a glimpse into what the future could hold for the Reds. His track record, tactical nous, and potential player acquisitions could usher in a new era of success at Anfield. However, the transition would require patience, adaptation, and time for the team to gel under new leadership. Only time will tell if Slot is the man to lead Liverpool.
