Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp talks about two underperforming Reds’ stars; Salah and Nunez, and refers to their situation as ‘tricky.’

Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah will soon find their best form in front of goal, describing their situation as “tricky.”

The two were both wasteful in Wednesday night’s Merseyside defeat to Everton, producing another dismal performance in front of goal. Nunez has only scored once in his past nine games.

That goal came after a clearance from goalkeeper Ivo Grbic that rebounded off the Uruguayan against Sheffield United. Meanwhile, Salah has scored twice in his past seven games, although both were penalties.

Admitting that the pair are not in the best of form right now, Klopp stated that it is typical for strikers to go through such droughts, revealing how he is attempting to help the two attackers regain their form.

Jurgen Klopp said (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Not in a good moment, one or two. That is obviously the most tricky thing to do. Strikers are not scoring, whatever I say. It is tricky; strikers have to go through these things. That’s how it is; that’s a striker’s life.”

“Goalkeeper’s life is make 500 saves and one howler, and everybody talks about this. Striker’s life you score all the time then you don’t score for a while, and everybody asks you why you don’t score.”

“It is the most difficult thing in the world, and can sometimes be the most easy thing in the world. Depends on the assists you get. You have to go through it and I try to help them to speed it up. That says nothing about the quality of the boys, just the moment.”

“You have to go through it and I try to help them to speed it up. That says nothing about the quality of the boys, just the moment. It is how it is and now we have to start again. We have four games to go, 12 points to get. If you ask me, I want them all.”

Klopp believes that the poor performance by the strikers is just a temporary phase that will eventually pass. He insists that the strikers missing their chances in recent games do not justify their quality.

Salah still has 24 goals this season with 13 assists, bringing his total for Liverpool to 200, while the elusive Uruguayan Nunez is only two away from 20 in all competitions.

The Reds’ staff and supporters just have to be a bit patient and let this phase pass. The star forwards of Liverpool should not be judged on the basis of just recent mistakes, while they have a bright past, helping the club for a long time.
