Borussia Dortmund are keeping tabs on Liverpool skipper Virgil Van Dijk amid Klopp’s replacement’s joining

According to Spanish publication Fichajes, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are looking to make a move to secure the services of Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk.

Jurgen Klopp‘s future replacement Arne Slot is now asking for confirmation from the skipper about his future plans at the club as he is now prioritizing his new contract. Klopp’s impending exit from Liverpool after nearly nine years has prompted a number of changes at the club.

Following discussions with Arne Slot, Liverpool has reached a compensation agreement with Feyenoord for Slot to become the team’s next boss, ushering in a new era under his guidance.

Dortmund’s interest in Van Dijk

Three key players on the team—Van Dijk, Mo Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnoldcould become free agents in the summer of 2025 if a contract extension does not happen.

Numerous significant teams are now aware of this circumstance. Including Borussia Dortmund, who are keeping an eye on the Dutch defender‘s contract position. Dortmund and other European teams are keeping a close eye on Van Dijk’s future.

Arne Slot views Liverpool’s captain as a key element for the future of the club. Despite his 32 years of age, the star defender is still capable of doing wonders for the club in numerous competitions.

While re-signing Van Dijk is a priority for Slot, he is also keen to secure Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s stay at the club. While the departure of Mo Salah could be harmful for the Reds, it could also provide Liverpool with the necessary funds to strengthen Arne Slot’s squad.

Although Slot undoubtedly desires to work with Van Dijk, who is still among the greatest in the world, the choice of whether or not to pursue a contract extension most likely rests elsewhere. Richard Hughes, the new sporting director, will also have a voice, but it’s unclear what decision he will take.

It wouldn’t be shocking if Van Dijk thought about his alternatives if he weren’t getting a new deal soon. A move would give him time to adjust to life on a new team while he was still in the ballpark of his career.
