Incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot has asked the club’s hierarchy to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida
Next Liverpool manager Arne Slot has advised the club to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida during the summer transfer window. Geertruida has played a pivotal role under Slot at Feyenoord, playing an important role in their last season’s title triumph.
Standing at 1.84 metres, the Dutch international is a formidable presence for his team in both aerial and ground duels. He has incredible versatility, capable of playing as a defensive midfielder and as a centre-back while currently playing at right-back.
Geertruida has the pace and athleticism to compete with any opponent in one-on-one duels and over huge distances quickly. He displays defensive discipline by employing well-timed tackles and interceptions rather than relying on aggressive challenges.
The 23-year-old has impressive composure on the ball and he is always available to support his teammates in possession. Although Geertruida makes several progressive passes, he sometimes faces limitations in his passing range and rarely opts for long balls.
The Dutchman switches the play well to stretch the opponents and create spaces but mostly resorts to short passing. The situation could leave his teammates in a high-pressure situation at times and he needs to address it.
Geertruida has made 44 appearances in all competitions for Feyenoord, contributing with seven goals and four assists this season. Fichjaes reported that Slot has asked Liverpool’s hierarchy to sign Geertruida during the summer as a defensive target.
Liverpool have leaked many goals this season and that has created a lot of problems for them in recent months. They lost out on multiple titles despite dominating for the majority of the season and poor defence is very culpable.

The Reds have a hierarchy set where Slot can only provide advice and communicate the type of player he requires. Michael Edwards is in charge of the footballing operation while Richard Hughes is the sporting director at the club responsible for transfer deals. While Geertruida fits the profile with his versatility, age and talent, there are several options that the Reds can look into first.
