Bayern Munich and the two clubs remain interested in signing Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk next summer
Three clubs including Bayern Munich are monitoring the contract situation surrounding Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk as the summer approaches. Liverpool are going through a transition after Jurgen Klopp announced his departure after the current season alongside several staff members.
Klopp’s announcement proceeded with rumours about numerous experienced players with a year left on their contract after this season. Many senior players have achieved everything under the departing manager as they near the end of their peak years.
Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk are the three players who require a new contract or decide their future. The Reds cannot afford to lose these players as free agents as they already work under a restricted budget.
Furthermore, Liverpool cannot let the majority of their locker-room leaders leave in bulk causing potential problems for the new head coach. Liverpool have already selected Arne Slot as the new head coach to succeed Klopp at Anfield under a new hierarchy.
Fichajes reported that Bayern have joined Saudi Arabia club Al-Qadisiyah and Borussia Dortmund to lure Van Dijk during the summer. Slot and the Liverpool hierarchy need to have a conversation with the club’s captain about his future. Our record signing for a defender, Van Dijk will leave behind legacy of excellence once he departs Anfield.
The Reds struggled badly due to their leaking defence as the attack failed to dig them out of trouble recently. Liverpool suffered elimination from the FA Cup and the Europa League due to their poor form since mid-March.
Furthermore, they experienced two draws and two losses in the last five Premier League matches which cost them the title. Van Dijk proved his naysayers wrong for most of the current season after receiving severe criticism last season.

However, the recent poor performance allowed his critics an opportunity to question his longevity at the top-most level. The 32-year-old turns 33 in July and his age will play a big factor if he receives a new contract. Van Dijk remains a pivotal figure at the club and his legacy is untainted but his future at Liverpool remains speculative.
