Football journalist Christian Falk denies the transfer rumours linking Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk with Borussia Dortmund amid contract situation
Christian Falk rejected the rumours linking Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk with German giants Borussia Dortmund for the summer exit. Van Dijk is heading into the next season with only 12 months remaining in his current contract as speculations continue.
The 32-year-old turns 33 in July and the speculation has grown further since Jurgen Klopp announced his departure in January. The Reds suffered with a suddenly poor run of form since mid-March, costing them three trophies quickly.
Liverpool’s defensive fragility played a constant role throughout this season even when they performed brilliantly, getting consistent results. However, the poor display from the attack stopped those fragilities from staying hidden in front of the media and opponents.
Many teams have enjoyed getting early goals against the Reds to sit back and compact their spaces. As the squad ran out of morale and ideas, all of Liverpool’s hard work amounted to only one trophy.
Van Dijk proved his critics wrong during the majority of the season with his leadership and dominant performances. However, the leaky defence and Liverpool’s inability to keep a clean sheet have put the spotlight on his performance once again.
Falk used his official X account to dismiss the rumours linking Van Dijk with a move to Dortmund next summer. Borussia secured a 1-0 home win against Paris Saint-Germain last night in the Champions League semi-final’s first tie.
