Liverpool could lose star defender following the departure of Jurgen Klopp

As reported by Express, Liverpool could lose out on their 26-year-old star defender, Joe Gomez this summer. The English defender is seeking a new challenge and has asked the club to listen to offers for him when the transfer window opens.

The departure of Jurgen Klopp will be the end of an era at Anfield and a new era will be marked with a plethora of changes. The first of these changes could be in Liverpool’s defensive line. Joel Matip is expected to leave this summer and there has also been some talk linking Virgil van Dijk away from the club.

However, speculation regarding the Dutch defender is mostly baseless. Apart from these two Joe Gomez could be the newest player that the Reds are racing to replace during the summer. They have already found a replacement for Klopp in Eredivisie manager, Arne Slot.

The Feyenoord man is expected to change things up and we will most definitely be seeing a massive shift in Liverpool’s playing philosophy as well. So, Slot will likely be asking the ones above him to sign players that fit his system.

While Gomez will most likely not be forcing a move out of Anfield, the club could have no choice but to move him if the 26-year-old doesn’t fit in Arne Slot’s system. Gomez has made 222 appearances for the Reds recording a total of nine assists.

Transfermarkt values the defender at around €25m so a sale for the 26-year-old could help facilitate some transfer for the Reds this summer. While it is only a slim possibility at this moment, we could be seeing Joe Gomez play his last season for Liverpool
