Hansi Flick never offered himself to Liverpool
Back when the vacancy for the Liverpool boss was still open, Hansi Flick was among those who saw himself linked with the move. However, it did not come to fruition. The Reds, since then, have acquired the services of Arne Slot as the Head Coach of the club.
There’s more clarity now on why Flick never offered himself to the Liverpool job. At that point in time, there was a vacancy at Barcelona as well, following Xavi’s announcement of leaving the club at the end of this term. Flick turned his attention entirely towards securing that job in Catalonia. However, he’s left with an egg on his face, as Xavi made a U-turn on his decision.
Here is what Christian Falk had to say in his Daily Briefing about Flick’s present situation, with him leading the race for the Chelsea job.
“Hansi Flick is now a strong candidate for the Chelsea job. He was very focused on the job at Barcelona. He was told by Joan Laporta that if Xavi leaves, he’s very high on the list. Pini Zahavi, his agent, is very close to Laporta, so he was concentrating on this deal. This is why, I heard, he didn’t even talk with Liverpool. He wasn’t offered, by his management, to Liverpool, which would have been a normal reaction when such a club is free and searching for a manager. Now the Barcelona option is away and I heard that Hansi Flick is very, very keen on having a job in the Premier League.”
What next for him?
The former Bayern Munich and Germany coach has a very good reputation in world football and is one of the few managers to have won the treble. He enjoyed a tremendous rate of success at Bayern, winning 2.53 PPM which is colossal.
With Flick’s focus now shifting towards securing a job in the Premier League, Liverpool will have to look elsewhere for their managerial needs. The appointment of Arne Slot as the new head coach signals a fresh chapter for the club, and it is imperative that Liverpool focus on supporting Slot and ensuring a smooth transition under his leadership.
While the opportunity to work with Flick may have passed for Liverpool, the club must now rally behind Slot and provide him with the necessary support to succeed. Slot brings his own unique vision and approach to the role, and it will be fascinating to see how he shapes the team and guides them towards future success.
