Journo confirms Liverpool star is currently not a ‘topic of discussion at Bayern Munich

Journalist rubbishes rumours of Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk links to Bayern Munich

Following the announcement of the impending exit of Jurgen Klopp from Liverpool at the end of the current season, several first-team superstars have made the news linking them with moves away from Merseyside. Skipper Virgil van Dijk saw himself linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

However, Christian Falk took to his Daily Briefing to rubbish all the rumours of this potential move, stating clearly that VVD is not a topic of discussion at the Bavarian giants. Here is what he had to note:

“Virgil van Dijk is not a topic up for discussion at Bayern Munich at the moment. It’s really, really a problem in the club that it’s hard to discuss players if you don’t already have a coach in place. An interesting player for surely every team. If you get a 32-year-old player in who would immediately be the boss of the defence, you have to discuss this with the coach; if there’s no coach to discuss, you can’t make this decision. So, with Bayern Munich (as is also the case with Borussia Dortmund), it’s not hot.”

Rightly said, Falk. Who would the Bayern bosses discuss this potential move with when there’s nobody to take charge of the club as a manager? Thomas Tuchel will leave the club at the end of this season, and Bayern have yet to find a replacement for the German tactician.

Here to stay!

Moreover, Virgil van Dijk is no ordinary defender. He is the captain of Liverpool Football Club and remains as important as ever to the club. With Klopp and all of his backroom staff departing with him, we need to have continuity at least on the pitch, and Virgil moving in the same window as Klopp is an unimaginable idea.

That would totally break the rapport and chemistry at the club. Two figures, who have played monstrous roles in the recent success of the club, both leaving one after the other would leave the club with almost nowhere to go. There has to be a method to everything, including managing the potential exits of players. Nevertheless, he is not a player who will be departing the club this summer, so let’s not speak of that. The 32-year-old still has a lot to offer and Liverpool would want to keep him at the club for as long as possible.

He has been brilliant ever since his return from the ACL injury and it doesn’t even seem like he had such a prolonged spell away from the game. He has comfortably hit his second peak and continues to be one of the league’s leading defenders.

So in summary, while the rumour mill churns away, it’s crystal clear that van Dijk’s future is firmly rooted at Liverpool, at least for the time being. The club will pull out all the stops to hold onto their skipper as they navigate this period of transition. And that’s the long and short of it.
