Liverpool have been presented with a list of promising centre-backs for next season
Journo, Neil Jones revealed on The Daily Briefing that Liverpool will be in the market for a young centre-back this summer. The team can’t continue to rely on skipper Virgil Van Dijk, who is now 32-years-old and Ibrahima Konate who is inconsistent and struggles to stay fit.
The emergence of Jarell Quansah has been a positive for the team. The 21-year-old has made 32 appearances this season alone and will likely play a bigger part on the squad next season. However, the Reds need more than just one promising defender.
Luckily for them, Neil Jones has a whole list prepared and namedropped several centre-back targets for Liverpool to go after this summer. Let’s have a look at who the journo deems worthy to play for the Reds. (h/t The Daily Briefing)
“We know that Levi Colwill and Piero Hincapie are two players that have been admired in the past, and that Antonio Silva of Benfica is another. Recent links to Willian Pacho have substance, too.”
“I like Jarrad Branthwaite at Everton a lot”
“Personally, I’d be amazed if all of Europe’s top clubs are not looking at Barcelona’s Pau Cubarsi right now”
Jones also mentioned that Jarrad Branthwaite will likely not be coming to Liverpool because of the club’s relationship with Everton. While Pau Cubarsi seems to be a generational talent in the making Barcelona have never been keen on letting go of their La Masia talents.
Signing Hincapie will be difficult because he has been a crucial part of Bayer Leverkusen’s invincible run and the Bundesliga side will not be too keen on letting him go this summer. Levi Colwill is contracted to Chelsea till 2029 so signing him will also be extremely tough for the Reds.
Willian Pacho has only recently joined Eintracht Frankfurt so he might not be keen on another move. This leaves Antonio Silva. There has been a lot of talk suggesting the 20-year-old could move to Anfield this summer and the Reds would be happy to have him.
