A Liverpool reunion is all set as Julian Ward gears up for a return to Anfield
After stepping down back in 2022, Julian Ward is once again set to return to Liverpool. As reported by The Athletic, Michael Edwards has convinced the 42-year-old to return to Anfield, Ward will become the new technical director of Fenway Sports Group.
It is being reported that Ward will be overlooking player development for FSG. He will have a big say in the Academy’s operations, while also overlooking the loan deals and development strategies of clubs under FSG.
The 42-year-old will also be responsible for setting up and running FSG’s new football innovation department. The American owners are looking to set up a multi-club model so Ward will have a ton on his plate as he returns to the world of football.
The 42-year-old stepped down to spend more time with his family and will now be playing a key role in the post-Jurgen Klopp era. Liverpool were in drastic need of new people and so far, Edwards has done a stellar job at getting people to sign up.
Richard Hughes will also be arriving from Bournemouth and both he and Ward will be directly reporting to Michael Edwards. The 42-year-old is widely considered an expert in player development and the Reds have a lot of fresh legs on their roster.
With Ward’s expertise and Edwards’ leadership and eye for people, Liverpool are well on their way towards a successful rebuild following the departure of Jurgen Klopp.
