Arne Slot reveals that it is just “a matter of days” for his Liverpool move, succeeding Jurgen Klopp
Arne Slot claimed that it is just “a matter of days” to confirm his Liverpool move and succeed Jurgen Klopp. The Reds pinpointed Slot as the worthy candidate to succeed Klopp as the German’s legendary era comes to an end.
In January, Klopp announced that he is stepping back from the managerial role at the club once the season ends. The time allowed Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, to systematically implement a plan to restructure the club from the top.
FSG announced former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards as the new CEO of football, controlling all the footballing operations immediately. Edwards appointed Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes as the new sporting director for the Reds from the next season onwards.
Edwards and Hughes used the time to do a thorough vetting of all the potential candidates for the managerial position. Eventually, Slot checked all the boxes to succeed the beloved Liverpool German boss and become the new Liverpool head coach.
Slot told a news conference (h/t ESPN) that it is just “a matter of days” before confirming his Liverpool move. He said:
“It’s not quite done yet, but it will be a matter of days. It takes more than a simple shopping list and going to the store. These kinds of things have to be timed properly. It hasn’t been communicated yet, but don’t worry, it will undoubtedly happen soon.”
Slot has worked in a similar financially restricted environment at Feyenoord as Klopp has done at Liverpool during his tenure. The 45-year-old gained an immense reputation in the Netherlands for his man-management skills and ability to develop players beyond their potential.
The Dutchman has built a similar culture to Klopp as well, emphasizing the balance between success and youth development. The Mirror reported that Slot will move into Klopp’s £4 million Liverpool house which the club bought from Brendan Rodgers.
