Barcelona cannot afford Liverpool star Luis Diaz despite his father provoking a summer deal
Liverpool star Luis Diaz is a transfer target of Barcelona but the Spanish giant lacks the finances to secure him. Barcelona’s finances are well-known to the world as they have resorted to loan deals or buying players for cheap.
Diaz has played a pivotal role for Liverpool this season under the manager Jurgen Klopp, featuring regularly at the left wing. However, Klopp has announced that he is stepping back from the managerial role at the end of the current season.
With the new manager Arne Slot coming in during the summer, some players are contemplating their future at the club. Despite his success and fan adoration, Diaz has struggled with inconsistency and lack of productivity in front of the goal.
The 27-year-old suffered a serious knee injury in the 2022-23 season which kept him out for 31 games. After returning, he struggled to perform at that level and many doubted the Colombian to retain his former form.
Nevertheless, Diaz proved his doubters wrong in the latter part of the current season and delivered sensation performances. While his performances and consistency improved significantly, the 27-year-old struggled with his end product and missed many chances.
Diaz has made 49 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists this season. Many experts and pundits question the language and cultural barrier playing a role in his lack of productivity.
The Colombia international has incredible technique and influence in the game, and the language barrier might be hindering him. Diaz’s father has implied numerous times that the winger is open to a move abroad, preferably to Spain.
Spanish publication Sports.es revealed that Barcelona’s interest in Diaz faces hindrance due to the “unaffordable” price tag he rightfully possesses. The Catalan club have a keen interest in Diaz to revamp their competitiveness at the top end of the La Liga.
