Liverpool want Juventus star Federico Chiesa this summer to bolster their attacking lineup
Liverpool are planning to sign Juventus forward Federico Chiesa as an attacking option to bolster their squad with healthy competition. The Reds struggled with productivity as their forward line faced criticism for their wastefulness in front of goal this season.
After mid-March, Liverpool suffered a significant drop in form which cost them numerous major trophies including the Premier League. The Reds enjoyed a fantastic season despite the anticlimactic end, overperforming with a newly revamped squad that still needs development.
Liverpool needs a productive attacker and a player with flair, the two areas where their current attacking department is lacking. Diogo Jota is one of the club’s most lethal finishers, but his unfortunate injury record makes him unreliable.
Prolific legend Mohamed Salah has continued to notch up good goals and assists but his recent form is very alarming. The Egyptian reaches 32 years of age when the new season begins while his poor productivity exposed the overall contribution.
Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez faced criticism for their inconsistency throughout this season despite their contribution to the overall gameplay. The situation only leaves Cody Gakpo even though the Dutchman also faced some criticism in the middle of the season.
Fichajes reported that Liverpool wants to sign Chiesa from the Old Lady during the summer and bolster their attacking department. Chiesa has only one season left in his current contract but would command a decent price, given his importance.
The 26-year-old has earned a strong reputation in Europe for his ability to create and score for his team. Chiesa has the versatility to play at any attacking position behind the main forward while also leading the frontline himself.
Chiesa rates Steven Gerrard very highly. Whether he will take up the opportunity to don the same jersey as the English icon remains to be seen.
