Manchester City show interest in Liverpool target Anthony Gordon
Liverpool and Manchester City are big fans of Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon. The 23-year-old former Everton forward has been smashing it for the Magpies this season.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic via ECHO, Liverpool and City are just two of many clubs keeping an eye on Gordon. Here is what Ornstein recently mentioned in a Q&A session.
“Liverpool (like Manchester City and many other clubs) really like Gordon,”
“But they are not expected to pursue the winger because Newcastle have no intention of letting him go and, even if that stance was changeable, the potential level of fee it would take to do business would be astronomical.”
“I’m certain Gordon is staying at Newcastle this summer.”
He has bagged 11 goals and added another 10 assists in just 35 Premier League appearances. His form’s been so good he earned his first England cap in March during a friendly against Brazil.
Another winger named Gordon?
.Gordon’s story is quite interesting. He was actually with Liverpool until he was 11 before moving to Everton. Now, it’s not every day you see players making the switch between these two rival clubs, especially at the senior level. But with Gordon, there’s always that hint of what could have been. Imagine him playing alongside his childhood mate, Curtis Jones, who’s already an important player for the Reds.
While Gordon’s form has undoubtedly caught the attention of top clubs, Newcastle have no intention of letting him go. And even if they were open to it, the fee to secure his services would likely be sky-high. Liverpool’s interest is there, but with City also in the mix, it’s not going to be easy. City’s financial muscle and their knack for swooping in on top talent could throw a spanner in the works for Liverpool.
Despite the hurdles, Liverpool’s interest in Gordon makes sense. His pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability make him an attractive prospect. He’s shown he can perform in the Premier League, and at 23, his best years are still ahead of him. Having someone like Gordon, who already has a connection with the club and the city, could add a lot to the team dynamic.

In the end, while it might be a long shot given Newcastle’s stance and the potential fee involved, it’s definitely a situation worth keeping an eye on. Gordon’s journey is far from over, and who knows what twists and turns the transfer market might bring. For now, though, it seems like he’s set to stay put at Newcastle and continue his impressive run.
