Let’s take a look at the impact of Jurgen Klopp through the eyes of others at Liverpool
This Sunday, Jurgen Klopp will be managing his last game for Liverpool. The German manager is all set to leave Anfield at the end of this season. After nine years at the very top, Jurgen Klopp now prepares to say goodbye to the city he won it all for.
During his time with the Reds, Klopp won the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup, the Premier League, the UEFA Super Cup, the English Super Cup and finally the English League Cup. Everything that Klopp could’ve won for Anfield he did.
Before the German arrived, the Anfield crowd was beginning to give up, but Klopp gave them newfound hope and eventually ended their Premier League title drought as well. If the results of four of the German’s games had ended in a win Klopp would’ve had two more Champions League titles and two more Premier League titles.
Leaving as a Liverpool legend.
It is clear to see just how big of an impact Klopp has had at Liverpool. Without him, there is no telling where the club would’ve found themselves at this point in time. While we can gauge his impact only from afar, there are those who’ve lived and breathed the dream with the German.
Klopp’s players are highly appreciative of him and have not held themselves back as they bid farewell to the German coach. Here’s what his players and people around him have to say about Klopp’s impact on them and the team as a whole.
“He put them [Liverpool] back amongst the best in the world”
“He’s a fantastic manager for the club and he’s been fantastic for all of us”
Andy Robertson (h/t TNT Sports)
“He got me to Liverpool and that is one of the biggest things of my career. I am forever grateful for that opportunity. He obviously helped me and made me the player I am today. I am always grateful to him for helping me on that difficult journey,”
Virgil Van Dijk to Sky Sports
“I was fortunate to have a manager who wanted to play young players, who saw something in me. I will forever be indebted to him.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold via ESPN
“He improved me as a player for sure and we have helped each other a lot. We give everything for the club to win trophies. As a human being, he is a person who, if I was in trouble, I would give a call to and ask for his opinion.
Mo Salah via Sky Sports
“He had a huge impact on my career,”
“He was the guy who provided all of this, being able to experience everything I’ve experienced in recent years in football, reaching this high level, getting to where I am, achieving what I’ve achieved.
Alisson via ESPN
“He has been a massive part of my football journey. He has given me my first chance and my breakthrough so I owe everything to him. I want to cherish every bit left as he is one of the best managers in the world,”
Conor Bradley via Sky Sports
Before Klopp arrived, the Reds finished sixth in the Premier League table just two points above Southampton who now bide their time in the Championship. Going from that to recording the highest point total in PL history for the Reds is an achievement that will stay untouched for years to come.
It wasn’t just about the trophies he won, it was also about the legends he gave to the Anfield crowd. Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mo Salah are just a few players who will go down as PL Icons thanks to the greatness of Jurgen Klopp
It’s not just his players who feel indebted to Klopp and appreciate everything he has done for Anfield. Even former players of the club and lifelong supporters only have praise for the German. After all, he did pull Liverpool out of the trenches and saved them from a potential decade of disaster. Let’s have a look at what they have to say.
“He’s made people believe again that this club is a huge club, which is exactly what it is. He has been phenomenal.”
Jamie Redknapp via ESPN
“Jurgen arriving was like alchemy at the perfect time. We had had so many false starts and nearly dawns, but Jurgen’s greatest gift has been to deliver on the promise he made when arrived, to bring success again. The only regret is that we didn’t get to watch the culmination of the title-winning season because of the pandemic. But we have had an unbelievable time under Jurgen Klopp. All eyes were on us and it’s been amazing.”
A lifelong Liverpool supporter via ESPN
Klopp made them believe, Slot must keep the faith alive
Arne Slot has a ginormous task ahead of him as he tries to steer Liverpool to glory following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. There is no recipe for success with the Reds, it’s all about the mentality of the club and how badly they want it.
Unless the Dutch manager is ready to grit it out and carry on the culture at Liverpool, he will struggle to follow in Klopp’s footsteps. Not just him, but almost any manager in the world would fail to produce the kind of results that Klopp did at Anfield.
Clearly, Arne Slot has his work cut out for him. The German will take to the stands of Anfield one final time as he makes his last stand with Liverpool. Klopp will be bidding farewell to the city that will never be able to forget about him.
