Liverpool star pair has made it into Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of Euro 2024

Liverpool stars Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones are on Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of Euro 2024

Liverpool star defender Jarell Quansah received his first England call-up, and since then, his career has taken off. The English defender has been included in Gareth Southgate’s preliminary selection for this summer’s European Championships.

The 21-year-old, who plays central defence with Virgil Van Dijk, has established himself as a staple in the Reds’ first squad. In his 17 league games this season, he has assisted the Reds in keeping two clean sheets.

When the Reds defender went on loan to League One team Bristol Rovers in January 2023, he saw senior football for the first time. Manager Joey Barton threw him right into the side, believing Quansah would reach the highest levels.

After winning the U19 Euros with England in 2022, the 21-year-old just made his debut with the England U21s in October. He had previously played for the U20s and made four appearances. He worked hard and it is now evident that his efforts were not in vain.

Curtis Jones, on the other hand, was in limbo before this call-up since he is no longer eligible for the U21s, but he played 36 times for Liverpool this season and adequately pleased Gareth Southgate, which then led to his selection in the senior squad as well.

Given that there is still a position available with the announcement regarding former Reds captain Jordan Henderson’s drop-out, Jones has a great chance to profit. Harvey Elliott, despite having a fantastic season with the Reds, gets excluded from the 33-man roster once more.

A great opportunity for Quansah to prove himself internationally

Quansah’s selection for the national team is a just reward for his performance this year. The defender has had an incredible breakthrough season, and his time on loan at Bristol Rovers seems to have aided in his growth.

Playing at such high-level stages continuously has provided him with a lot of experience that has helped him develop his qualities and techniques. He obviously learned a lot and will now take those lessons to the international stage.
