Saying the 2023/24 season for Liverpool and Darwin Nunez was full of ups and downs would be an understatement. At one point the team was competing for a quadruple but it all came crashing down as the season went on.
However, the Reds managed to get something out of the season as they lifted the Carabao Cup. Fortunately, Jurgen Klopp got to lift a trophy during his last season at Anfield. 24-year-old Darwin Nunez was instrumental to the Reds’ run this season.
In a season filled with injuries, Nunez managed to make 54 appearances for Liverpool. He has the second-most goals for the Reds this season with 18 goals to his name. The Uruguayan forward was second only to Mo Salah who scored 25 goals.
Nunez’s distribution was also sensational and he racked up 13 assists. However, despite putting up such good numbers the 24-year-old was left with a bitter taste in his mouth when it all came crashing down.
Nunez scored a ton of goals but he could’ve done a lot more for the team. The 24-year-old was extremely wasted and missed a ton of big chances this season if he had been more comfortable in front of goal. Liverpool’s story for 2023/24 might’ve been a lot different.
However, the club will continue to back Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan striker has shown very promising signs this season and if he develops well Liverpool could have a solid number 9 for years to come. Hopefully, Nunez can gain more confidence in front of goal next season.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of effect Arne Slot has on 24-year-old Nunez.
