“It affected me”- Darwin Nunez breaks silence on Liverpool unhappiness and social media negativity

Darwin Nunez breaks silence Social media negativity effects amid his Liverpool struggles

Following a challenging conclusion to the season, Darwin Nunez has acknowledged that social media criticism has had an impact on him. The Liverpool striker finished the season outside of Jurgen Klopp‘s starting lineup in the Premier League after scoring just once in more than two months.

Nunez recently removed anything about Liverpool from his social media profiles, which created a lot of buzz about a potential transfer. Following a few subpar performances, he was the target of multiple criticisms and took action to ban Reds fan accounts.

After the recent victory against Spurs, fans were quick to notice that he was walking straight down the tunnel without acknowledging the audience. Moreover, he did not even applaud the departing manager Jurgen Klopp as he was performing his guard of honour against Wolves on Sunday.

Nunez says he tries to shut out any negativity that comes his way and backs his own ability to prove his doubters wrong. He told Por la Jersey (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Before, I did look at them a lot and it affected me. Whoever says that those negative comments do not affect them is lying, those negative comments that are directed towards you will always affect you. But now I ignore those comments because they are of no use to me.”

“I’m not looking at anything, not even the good stuff. If a game goes badly for me, I rely on my family. What happened in the game is already there, it’s already happened, and there is always revenge.”

Nunez has had a rough season scoring just 18 times in his 54 appearances in which he scored just once from his final 13 appearances of the season. He started just one of Liverpool’s last seven matches of the season.

The attacker has had a rough couple of months

He lost his spot in Klopp’s starting lineup as a result of missing several excellent chances in front of goal over the latter two months of the season as Liverpool’s championship challenge crumbled.

More Liverpool news

Although Núñez had a challenging season finale, everyone at Anfield has a fresh start this summer, and he should play a big role in Slot’s plans. The majority of Liverpool supporters concur that the player has a lot of talent, but in order to advance, he has to improve and work on his form.
