Liverpool set to be rivalled by Bundesliga giants in race for talented teenager

Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, alongside several top European clubs, want Mainz 05 star Brajan Gruda.

Top European clubs including Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen want Mainz 05 attacker Brajan Gruda during the upcoming summer transfer window. Gruda established himself as the senior player last season after breaking into the first team during the 2022-23 season.

Standing at 1.78 metres, Gruda is already well-built to play at the topmost level with his strength and athleticism. The 19-year-old has the pace, close control and dribbling ability to be a constant threat in one-on-one situations against opponents.

The 19-year-old has the technique to deliver critical passes and through balls in the final third, opening the opponents with vision. Gruda plays with a lot of determination, working hard on and off the ball while showing teamwork and selflessness.

The Germany U21 prefers his left foot and can play as a right-winger, attacking midfielder, or main striker. Gruda has mostly played as an attacking midfielder for Mainz 05 and produced his goals and assists from that position.

The 19-year-old made 29 appearances in all competitions for the German club, contributing four goals and three assists this season. Gruda’s technique in both passing and shooting is raw but very promising, capable of contributing immediately to the top clubs.

According to the German publication SPORT BILD, Gruda is a target for several top European clubs including Liverpool and Leverkusen. The report suggested that the realistic transfer fee for the young German is in the region of 20 million euros.

Liverpool have a strong attacking department but they failed to produce output in the latter stages of the last season. The Reds are seeking reinforcement as the new era begins under the recently appointed head coach Arne Slot.

Gruda has immense potential and Slot has earned a big reputation for extracting the best out of young players and developing them into formidable players. However, the 19-year-old is not a necessity and the Reds have several players in the academy, itching for their opportunity.
