Liverpool star makes “smooth transition” claim when asked about Arne Slot

Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold trusts the club’s hierarchy to pick Arne Slot as the successor to former manager Jurgen Klopp

Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed that he trusts the Liverpool hierarchy for picking Arne Slot as the worthy successor to Jurgen Klopp. Slot left Feyenoord to join Liverpool as the new head coach after a considerable assessment from the club’s new management.

Fenway Sports Group appointed former sporting director for the Reds, Michael Edwards as the new CEO of football. Edwards hired former Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes as the new sporting director at Liverpool to restructure the club’s management.

Hughes and Edwards thoroughly searched for a worthy successor to the beloved manager Klopp, finally singling out then-Feyenoord’s boss Slot. Slot is the new head coach for the Reds while working directly under the leadership of Hughes and Edwards.

While there is a vast tactical difference between Slot and Klopp, there are key similarities that earned him the role. Like Klopp, Slot has worked under a restricted budget in his previous clubs yet managed to compete with cash-rich rivals.

Furthermore, the 45-year-old implemented a culture that balanced the ambition to chase titles with the development of youth players. Slot uses a similar high-pressing and attractive attacking philosophy that Klopp installed at Liverpool but the tactics are very different.

Trent told Sky Sports (via Liverpool Echo) that he is confident in the club’s decision to appoint Slot as the successor to Klopp. He said:

“I have trust in the club and who we’ve appointed. As a player, that’s all you can ask for, to have trust in what the higher-ups have brought in. I’m sure it will be a smooth transition.”

The 25-year-old shared a strong bond with Klopp after receiving the senior-team opportunity under the German and establishing himself. He will join England for the Euro 2024 international tournament that commences on the 15th of June.

Trent has only one year left in his current contract and Liverpool needs to make sure that their vice-captain’s future is secure. The Englishman is a pivotal part of the team and a fan favourite with a deep-rooted connection to the club.
