Liverpool ace backs Reds teammate as an impact player ahead of Euro 2024

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson asked people not to “overhype” youngster Ben Doak and let him grow into a big player

Andy Robertson urges protecting Liverpool youngster Ben Doak from “overhype” as he continues developing his talents. Doak has emerged from the Liverpool academy as one of the brightest talents, achieving senior-level games under Jurgen Klopp.

Despite making limited appearances last season, he has earned a spot in Steve Clark’s provisional squad for the Euro 2024. Doak suffered a meniscus tear last season that limited his appearances as he stayed sidelined for most of the season.

The Scottish international earned praise for his intense dribbling ability and skills to beat defenders one-on-one, making long progressive runs. Doak can play at both flanks but has played dominantly on the right side as an orthodox attacking winger.

Despite his immense talent, Doak has a long journey to fulfil his potential and develop his raw abilities. The 18-year-old has a hard-working mindset and a desire to learn the tactical requirements which will only help him going forward.

Speaking about Doak (via BBC), Robertson urged the media to avoid “overhyping” the youngster. He said:

“He’s got a bright future ahead of him, but it’s also important that we protect him and we put our arm round him and help him along the way, because he’s just starting his journey and we know what that’s like. It’s important people don’t get overhyped by him and let him grow and let him improve. If we do that then I believe that he can be a big player for us in this tournament, but he’ll be a big player for us for 10, 15 years to come as well.”

Robertson makes many valid points as the importance for Doak is to have longevity in his professional career. The youngster’s body is still developing as he continues to learn all the aspects of the game he can strengthen.

Liverpool have an exceptional academy that evolved even further under the legendary manager Jurgen Klopp during his tenure. Under the new head coach, Arne Slot, renowned for developing young talents, Doak could continue to benefit.

Robertson has established himself as one of the leaders in the Liverpool locker room and he is also the captain of Scotland. It is a good sign that the 30-year-old is making sure that the youngsters are developing under a protective environment to enjoy their game for years to come.
