Liverpool target Anthony Gordon praises Anfield as the stadium with the best atmosphere in England
Liverpool-linked Newcastle United star forward Anthony Gordon praised Anfield as the stadium with the best atmosphere alongside St. James’ Park. Gordon joined Newcastle from the Reds’ local rivals Everton during the 2022 summer transfer window and has continued to impress.
The 23-year-old had an antagonistic relationship with the Kopites since playing for Everton but his recent revelations have shifted perceptions. Gordon recognized Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as his idol, further suggesting his soft spot for the Reds despite the rivalry.
The England international is with his national team, preparing for the Euro 2024 competition after his last season’s performances. The Magpies struggled with consistency, finishing seventh in the Premier League but Gordon remained one of their key consistent performers.
Speaking to Channel 4’s official TikTok (via Liverpool Echo), Gordon admitted that Anfield has the best atmosphere in England. He said:
“Other than St James’ Park, it’s Anfield by far. I think because I’m from the city, I grew up watching it. Before the game when they sing You’ll Never Walk Alone, it’s top level.”
The Englishman praised Liverpool’s anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” while acknowledging the stadium’s atmosphere. Furthermore, Chelsea’ Conor Gallagher, Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier also acknowledged Anfield as the stadium with the best atmosphere.
The Athletic journalist David Ornstein confirmed Liverpool’s interest in signing Gordon but affirmed that the deal is currently impossible. The Reds plan to bolster their attack department to negate the problems they faced last season.
Gordon has the versatility to play at any attacking position, on both flanks and centrally while maintaining his threat. The 23-year-old prefers to play as a left-winger from where he could use his pace and dribbling to cut inside.

However, Newcastle would ask astronomical figures for one of their best performers as they seek to improve their fortunes. At the same time, the Magpies need to abide by the financial fair play rule which could lead them to sell their best players. Gordon could be a marquee signing for the Reds but the situation is only speculative at the moment.
