Arsenal ace backed to swap Emirates for Anfield; Chelsea could offer better terms

Aaron Ramsdale to leave Arsenal as he seeks regular game time; could move to Chelsea

Former England star Paul Robinson has suggested that Aaron Ramsdale could potentially move to Chelsea or Liverpool this summer, as Arsenal look to offload the goalkeeper.

Despite Arsenal’s push for the Premier League title, Ramsdale had a frustrating season, starting only 11 games across all competitions while serving as a backup to David Raya.

Ramsdale showcased his talent throughout the 2022-23 season, but Mikel Arteta opted to recruit Raya from Brentford last summer, making him the first choice at the Emirates Stadium.

Given Ramsdale’s reputation as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League and his status as an England international, Arsenal acknowledges that they may need to sell the 26-year-old this summer.

Robinson told Football Insider: “I don’t think Aaron Ramsdale will move abroad, I think there’s a move for him in the Premier League.

“The one that stands out is Chelsea. Petrovic and Sanchez don’t seem to be at the level you want. That’s where Chelsea are at.

“You look at other teams in the Premier League and he’d fit into most teams. I can’t see Newcastle happening with Pope there. Would Brighton be interested?

“If Kelleher leaves Liverpool, there’s an opportunity for him to go and be a number one with Alisson.

Even if Kelleher exits Anfield this summer, it will be difficult for Ramsdale to get regular game time at Liverpool as long as Allison is fit. The Brazilian goalkeeper has been a huge part of Liverpool’s sturdy defence over the years and is unlikely to be dropped in favour of Ramsdale.

Looking at this situation, Chelsea does seem like the most obvious choice for the goalkeeper in the Premier League. Both of Chelsea’s keepers, Petrovic and Sanchez have not reached the heights that are expected at the London club.

Other teams like Newcastle United might also be in for his signature but it would be a clash with his compatriot, Nick Pope, who is the club’s current number one. It will be interesting to see if Ramsdale chooses to stay at the Emirates and grinds it out to win back the confidence of his manager or if he can secure a favourable move away from Arsenal.
