Celtic ready to swoop for Wembley hero in £10m Liverpool raid

Celtic in pursuit of Liverpool’s second-choice goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher

Football Insider reported on May 21st that Caoimhin Kelleher, aged 25, is considering pursuing a departure from Liverpool. Kelleher is eager to secure a starting role elsewhere after facing limited opportunities at Anfield in recent years. The Republic of Ireland international understands that he will consistently play second fiddle to first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker as long as the Brazilian remains at Liverpool.

Kelleher has enjoyed his best season yet at Liverpool after making 26 starts across all competitions during the past campaign. The Reds value the 25-year-old at around £20-£22million as he looks to move on once the transfer window reopens next month, with his current contract set to expire in 2026.

“I’ve done my years as a no. 2″—Kelleher honest admission about his Liverpool future

According to sources from Football Insider, Celtic may encounter difficulties in meeting Liverpool’s valuation for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher during the upcoming summer transfer window. Celtic is reportedly considering a move for Kelleher valued at up to £10 million, but Liverpool’s asking price might pose a challenge for the Scottish club.

A move to Celtic could be a great opportunity for the Irish goalkeeper but it does have certain drawbacks. The biggest issue that Kelleher has at Liverpool is game time due to the presence of the reliable Brazilian Allison Becker. As long as Allison is fit he is going to be the first-choice goalkeeper at Liverpool, barring a serious drop in his performances.

Therefore a move to Celtic would make Kelleher the number one choice goalkeeper and would mean regular game time for the Irishman. The issue for Liverpool with such a transfer would be that the club will have to sell the shot-stopper for a much lower price than they would like for him. On the other hand, The Scottish Premiership would be a step down after the Premier League for the goalkeeper. Liverpool will have to agree to accept a lower price and the goalkeeper will have to accept playing a tier below the Premier League if such a move has to materialize.
