Barcelona centre-back Mikayil Faye is a target for Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool amid his desire to leave the club

Liverpool are ready to battle Manchester United and Arsenal to sign Barcelona defender Mikayi Faye amid his desire to leave. The 19-year-old has only featured for the Barcelona B team while already managing to represent the Senegal national team in March.

Standing at 1.86 metres, Faye is a powerful defender with strength and athleticism to challenge opponents in a close duel. Despite his immense strength and aggression, the 19-year-old uses game intelligence to commit to challenges, timing his tackles and interceptions.

The Senegal international has the pace and positioning sense to make quick recoveries in high-line tactics against direct play. Faye is still very young and needs to develop in many aspects of his games which would happen with experience.

On possession, the 19-year-old is very comfortable with the ball and well-suited for teams with possessional style of play. He can shield the ball in tight spaces and progress forward while also participating in distribution and the build-up play.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo journalist Roger Torello, Faye wants to leave Barcelona to gain first-team experience and develop. Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal are the teams that want the Barcelona youngster to bolster their defence during the summer.

The Reds want a left-footed centre-back to compete with captain Virgil van Dijk and eventually succeed him in the first-team. Van Dijk regained his past form last season but Liverpool continued to struggle defensively, conceding first goals in many games.

As new head coach Arne Slot takes charge at the club, the Reds will face several tactical changes next season. Slot needs to address the defensive vulnerability despite inheriting a formidable squad from the beloved and legendary ex-manager Jurgen Klopp.

Faye fits the profile that Liverpool desire but a lot will depend on the youngster’s price tag, given the competition. Liverpool are very shrewd in the transfer market, using strategy to successfully compete with high-spending rivals.
