Liverpool could lose superstar for free in 2025, contract talks in limbo

Liverpool races against time as they seek to secure the future of vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold amid interest from Real Madrid

Liverpool are facing the pressure of immediately securing the future of their vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold amid interest from Real Madrid. Trent has a year left in his current Liverpool contract as the Spanish giant plans to sign him for free.

The 25-year-old is a key part of the Reds setup and is currently one of the best playmakers in the world. Liverpool cannot afford to lose their best player at all and losing him for free would be a major disaster.

Trent is currently representing England and preparing for the Euros 2024 competition which starts from June 15th until July 15th. Liverpool manager Arne Slot may deploy the England international in a double-pivot midfield role alongside Declan Rice, preferring him in the midfield position.

Last season, legendary manager Jurgen Klopp used Trent as the inverted right-back and also as a number six for Liverpool. The 25-year-old has incredible offensive and playmaking ability but he has faced constant criticism for his defensive vulnerabilities.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold thrives when playing as a number six or when covered by a defensive midfielder in the right-back position. The England international has the playmaking ability to single-handedly change the game in the favour of his team.

The Football Insider reported that Liverpool are not close to securing Trent with a new contract which is becoming concerning. With Madrid constantly monitoring the situation surrounding the 25-year-old, the Reds are under severe pressure to act quickly.

Liverpool works under a restricted budget compared to their competitive rivals who enjoy regularly high-spending transfer season. The Reds simply cannot afford to lose their prime assets for free regardless of their age.

Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk are also two key players whose contracts expire next summer. At the same time, Trent is indispensable for Liverpool at any price as he enters the peak year. The Kopites adore the 25-year-old, who is himself a Liverpool fan, and they enjoy a strong personal connection with him.
