Liverpool star set for La Liga switch, new Anfield deal likely to be rejected

Adrian set to turn down Liverpool contract offer in favour of La Liga switch

Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian is expected to join Real Betis following the conclusion of his contract with the Reds ahead of next season, according to Spanish source Mundo Deportivo.

The 37-year-old will be a third-choice goalkeeper with Los Verdiblancos as a replacement for Claudio Bravo.

Liverpool had made a contract offer to Adrian, allowing him to prolong his stay at Anfield by another season. However, having not made even one official appearance through the course of 2023/24, the former West Ham goalie is intent on pursuing greener pastures in his homeland, Spain.

With Adrian’s rejection of a fresh contract at Liverpool, the Reds may find themselves in troubled waters as far as their goalkeeping situation is concerned with Caoimhin Kelleher also keeping the door open to leaving the club. The 25-year-old may leave Liverpool this summer to pursue a first-choice role elsewhere.

In that case, Alisson Becker would be the only goalkeeper available at Arne Slot’s disposal and it would compel Liverpool to shop for a back-up option or promote one of their youth players to being the Brazilian’s understudy from next season.

The Reds have not been linked with any names as of yet but are already preparing to make a new acquisition in the transfer window, as per Football Insider, as they expect both, Adrian and Kelleher, to leave in the summer.

Kelleher could follow Adrian in leaving Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool will hope that they receive an affirmative answer from Kelleher regarding his future in due course as it would allow them enough time in the transfer window to bring in a reliable secondary-choice goalkeeper.

Adrian, meanwhile, will be a free agent at the end of this month if he indeed does not renew his contract.

Liverpool may send scouts to watch a few players closely in the Copa America and Euro 2024, and it would not come as a surprise if they signed a new goalkeeper following the end of both continental tournaments.
