Popular journo rubbishes talks of release clause in impressive Liverpool star’s contract

The Athletic journalist James Pearce shunned the “silly” rumours claiming Liverpool star midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has a release clause

James Pearce dismissed the rumours suggesting that Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has a release clause in his current contract. Pierce reminded the fanbase that the Reds have not allowed release clauses in the contracts ever since the Emre Can saga.

The current Borussia Dortmund midfielder demanded a release clause in his potentially new contract negotiation while being a Liverpool player. Then-sporting director Michael Edwards rejected the idea of putting a release clause, prompting Emre to leave the club for free.

Despite Edwards’s departure from the club, the rule stayed intact as Liverpool continued to negotiate contracts without the release clauses. Currently, Edwards is the new CEO of football at Liverpool with new head coach Arne Slot succeeding legend Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister is going nowhere.

Answering Q&As for the Athletic, Pearce reminded the fans that Liverpool have a rule of not putting a release clause. He said:

“Liverpool don’t allow release clauses in contracts. You can go right back to when Emre Can was in talks over a new deal. He wanted a release clause, Liverpool dismissed the idea, and he ended up leaving as a free agent when his contract expired in the summer of 2018. Mac Allister is going nowhere.”

Mac Alister played an important role for Liverpool last season, featuring regularly in the first team and maintaining good consistency. The 25-year-old played as a number six, number eight and number 10 in midfield while influencing the game in every phase.

The Argentina international played as a deepest midfielder to allow Wataru Endo the time to adapt to the new league. Furthermore, he featured in that position and displayed selflessness even when Liverpool lacked the players or Endo struggled with performance.

Many fans and experts want Mac Allister to play a more advanced role due to his impressive playmaking skills. The 25-year-old made 46 appearances in all competitions for the Reds last season, contributing seven goals and providing seven assists.

Mac Allister is indispensable for Liverpool right now and he will play a prominent role under Slot. The Argentine has already established himself as one of the fan favourites at the club as Kopites wish to make more memories with him.
