Liverpool ace talks about his private conversation with Jurgen Klopp
Alexis Mac Allister dismissed any rumours of him leaving Liverpool while sharing a part of a private conversation with Jurgen Klopp. Mac Allister rejected rumours about Real Madrid’s interest in the Argentinian gripped social media which concerned the Reds fanbase.
The 25-year-old joined Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion last season under Klopp and immediately secured a first-team role. He started his Liverpool career as the deepest midfielder despite playing in the advanced role for most of his career.
Klopp needed a number six to fill the role as the new defensive midfielder Wataru Endo required time to adapt. Mac Allister displayed incredible versatility by doing the dirty work for the team while dictating tempo and distributing accurate passes.
The Argentina international also played as Liverpool’s number eight and number 10 when Endo played as the deepest midfielder. Mac Allister immediately became a fan favourite for his precise passing and creativity as well as technical abilities and shooting.
Speaking to Argentina news outlet TyC Sports (via Liverpool Echo), Mac Allister revealed a private conversation he had with Klopp. He said:
“At one point we gave each other a hug and he told me that it was a shame that we had only shared a year, but it gave me a lot of confidence for the future and everything that comes. He told me what I knew, which was that I was in the right club to continue growing.”
The 25-year-old further clarified the reason Liverpool is the best club for him while sharing his happiness at Anfield. He added:
“Everything works well, it is not a club with big egos and everyone tries to help you as much as they can. On the field, everything is different because everything can be very nice outside, but you have to perform on the inside. I have had to play in various positions and I enjoyed it a lot, I am happy to be in a club as big as Liverpool.”
The Argentine has an important role to play as Liverpool faces a small transition period with Arne Slot succeeding Klopp. Slot prefers the similar philosophy and culture that Klopp installed at Liverpool but there are many tactical differences between them.
However, Mac Allister could benefit from the Slot’s style of play as it puts importance on possessional play and build-up. The Dutch head coach prefers good passers and creativity over the counter-attacking and very direct approach in attack. The Argentine could play in his preferred number eight role under Slot or even as a number 10 under the fluid 4-3-3 formation.
