Netherlands legend Louis van Gaal praised Liverpool for picking Arne Slot as the worthy successor to legendary manager Jurgen Klopp
Louis van Gaal believes that Liverpool have made a “very good choice” with Arne Slot succeeding legendary boss Jurgen Klopp. Van Gaal hyped the “good technical” coaching abilities of Slot while maintaining that succeeding Klopp is always a difficult task.
The former Netherlands head coach managed Liverpool’s arch-rivals Manchester United during his long legendary career as a football manager. Van Gaal suffered a pre-mature sacking at Old Trafford but the failed spell does not dampen his fantastic managerial career.
Slot is taking the head coach role which is more limited to the managerial role of Klopp at the club. The 45-year-old enjoyed great success in his native country, managing clubs like AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord and elevating them further.
Klopp is a beloved figure at Liverpool and succeeding him is not an easy task but the fans have patience. Slot will have time to implement his tactics and coaching methods, which align with Klopp’s philosophy.
Van Gaal told Sky Sports that Slot is a good technical coach and among the best in the Netherlands. He said:
“Yes, it’s a big job because Jurgen Klopp has done it fantastically. So he (Slot) is the successor and it’s always more difficult But he is a good technical coach. I think at the moment he’s the best technical coach from the Netherlands. He was at that time free so I think Liverpool have made a very good choice.”
Liverpool changed their structure to usher in the new era and limit the power of different designations based on their speciality. Cult hero Michael Edwards returned to the club as the new CEO of football for FSG to implement the transition.
Edwards hired highly-reputed Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes as the new sporting director at the club to oversee managerial change. They selected Slot for his similar philosophy and ability to work under a restricted budget and find success against high-spending rivals.
