Liverpool ready to better initial bid for Ederson
Liverpool are interested in signing two Atalanta players this summer, Ederson and Teun Koopmeiners, after they both have enjoyed great campaigns with the Serie A giants and ended 2023/24 with a Europa League win.
While La Dea are not ready to part ways with both midfielders in the same transfer window, it seems that they are resigned to losing at least one of them, with Ederson looking more likely to depart than Koopmeiners.
Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester United and Newcastle United are all set to compete with Liverpool for the Brazilian midfielder’s signing, although the Reds have already commenced talks in recent days.
Caught Offside has reported that after having an initial bid turned down for the 24-year-old, Liverpool are now ready to pay between €45 million and €50 million to land their long-time target.
Ederson was on Liverpool’s radar even in January, but Atalanta were unwilling to let go of him midway through the season and hence, a transfer did not materialise six months ago.
His versatility makes Ederson a more valuable signing for Liverpool than Koopmeiners, especially keeping in mind that he has played a large part of last season as a defensive midfielder.
The Reds are imminently expected to sign a number six in the upcoming months as it would allow Alexis Mac Allister to play in a more advanced role and do his best job of dictating play from higher up the pitch.
At just 24, Ederson has a number of years under his belt and is still to enter his prime. The central midfielder is also capable of producing the occasional goal having had six strikes and one assists in the 23/24 Serie A season.
While Liverpool are ready to step efforts up for Ederson’s signing, it may have to wait until the end of Copa America as he is currently busy representing Brazil in this year’s edition of the tournament.
