Liverpool ready to splash the cash on Samba star over former Arne Slot protege

Liverpool to prioritise Ederson move over Koopmeiners

Liverpool have decided that they will pursue a transfer for Ederson over Teun Koopmeiners after firstly declaring interest in signing both Atalanta midfielders, Tutto Juve has reported.

The Reds have been convinced by the stability Ederson is able to offer in midfield over that of Koopmeiners and believe that he will be better suited to Arne Slot’s system despite the manager working with the latter before.

Having said that, Koopmeiners is not exactly a defensive midfielder although he has played in a deeper role, and is also two years older than his Atalanta teammate, Ederson, who will turn 25 in July this year.

Ederson was in top form in the UEFA Europa League Final as he brilliantly thwarted Florian Wirtz to end Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run of over 50 matches on the biggest of stages.

Liverpool have lacked a physical presence in defensive midfield since Jordan Henderson’s departure for Saudi Arabia and after making Alexis Mac Allister play in the role last season, a new signing is long overdue.

The Dutchman’s signing may have also cost Liverpool more than that of his Brazilian counterpart as a number of teams, including Juventus have already begun initial negotiations for his services.

That’s not to say that Ederson will be cheap as having had their primary approach rebuffed for him, Arne Slot’s side is now imminently expected to return with a bid in the range of €45 and €50 million.

It is still unknown what is the exact sum Atalanta are seeking to part ways with Ederson, but Liverpool will need to act fast nevertheless as La Dea may not sell him if Koopmeiners departs the club before.

Arne Slot is unlikely to be fazed by the Reds missing out on Koopmeiners’ signing as Ederson fits their requirement better anyway and will provide a much-needed stability in midfield next season.
