New Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany wants Liverpool star Joe Gomez to bolster his defence during the summer transfer window

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is a transfer target for new Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany to bolster their defence department. Gomez played a vital role for Liverpool last season under former manager Jurgen Klopp, helping them achieve the Carabao Cup.

The 27-year-old is a crucial part of the squad for the Reds as he displayed his immense versatility last season. The England international played as a right-back, left-back, centre-back and defensive midfielder during the injury crisis while maintaining his consistency.

Furthermore, the impressive display from Gomez helped him return to the international setup as he represented England squad for Euro 24. The 27-year-old has never questioned about not playing in his preferred centre-back role and continued to enjoy his football.

According to the Mirror, Kompany wants Gomez to join him at Bayern to bolster their defence department after last season’s misery. Bayern struggled in the Bundesliga while Bayer Leverkusen won their first Bundesliga title last season, remaining undefeated in the league.

The German giants also crashed out of the Champions League against eventual winners Real Madrid in a highly controversial match. Despite the unfairness they faced against Real, Bayern needs to improve their squad drastically or risk staying behind next season.

Liverpool wants to sign a new centre-back themselves as they seek a player that can compete with the current options. Furthermore, that player should have the potential to eventually succeed ageing Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk to avoid problems.

Gomez joined Liverpool even before the Klopp era and established himself as an important member despite suffering from nagging injuries. The 27-year-old’s personality, professionalism and humility make him a beloved figure among his peers and the backroom staff.
