Father of Ryan Gravenberch praises legendary Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for his son’s revival
The Father of Ryan Gravenberch shared his gratitude for Jurgen Klopp and declared optimism under Liverpool head coach Arne Slot. Gravenberch joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich last season after struggling to establish himself with the German giants despite his talents.
The 22-year-old experienced ups and downs during his first season with Liverpool, showcasing his immense talent despite struggles with injuries. Klopp deployed the Dutchman as a number eight and number 10 to harness his abilities with the ball.
Gravenberch has everything to become a world-class player but he needs to focus on a specialty despite all-round attributes. The Dutchman has favoured more attacking roles in midfield and performed well while struggling in defensive output despite having qualities.
Gravenberch is currently preparing with the Netherlands for the Euro 24 after ending his short exile from the national team. The Dutch international made 39 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions last season, contributing four goals and providing two assists.
Speaking to ESPN-Netherlands, Gravenberch’s father praised the influence of Klopp in Ryan’s career compared to Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel. He said:
“Jürgen Klopp had more feeling and personal interest than Nagelsmann and Tuchel combined. That immediately gave Ryan a very good feeling in the first conversations. Klopp knew that Ryan had not had an easy time at Bayern. He understands that he has to put a young boy abroad at ease.”
Klopp’s man-management skills are unique and incredible as players rarely voiced their frustration against him throughout his managerial career. Unlike other coaches, the German displayed patience and never berated a player in front of the media.
Gravenberch’s father provided his opinion on Slot as he praised the coach’s style of play that could benefit his son. He added:
“Although he loved playing under Klopp, Slot’s playing style suits Ryan a little better. Slot plays more like Manchester City and Arsenal, under Klopp Liverpool played more directly. Slot’s game suits Ryan better from Ajax’s training.”
Slot prefers a more intricate buildup play over the direct and counter-attacking tactics that Klopp deployed at Liverpool. However, both managers have similarities in pressing philosophy and developing young raw talents into world-class players.
