Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow has been linked with a switch to Liverpool

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided a transfer update on Liverpool-linked Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, who was on the radar of Manchester United last summer.

The Reds have several positions to address in this year’s summer transfer window, as new manager Arne Slot looks to reshape the squad. First of all, a central defender is understood to be the club’s top priority. The Reds look likely to add a new wide-forward amid speculation surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield.

Also, the Merseyside outfit could be recruiting a new goalkeeper as a potential replacement for No.2 Caoimhin Kelleher, who is reportedly on the radar of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow is on their shortlist for the summer transfer window, with a new No.2 being sought amid the possibility that Kelleher leaves this summer. In his latest Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano weighed in on those rumours linking Justin Bijlow to Liverpool and other leading Premier League clubs.

“Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow continues to attract speculation, with some fans asking me about recent stories involving Arsenal and Liverpool, as they are perhaps two clubs who could do with a new backup goalkeeper, particularly Arsenal as it looks like Aaron Ramsdale will have a good chance of leaving this summer,” Romano wrote in his column for the Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside.

“Still, I don’t have something concrete yet on this, nothing in terms of talks or concrete negotiations. Bijlow was Man United’s plan B to Onana last summer, but it didn’t work out at that time, so let’s see if Premier League clubs will arrive this summer.”

Caomhin Kelleher is planning to leave Liverpool for new pastures.

Kelleher has publicly expressed his desire to leave Anfield for more regular opportunities; if he does, a replacement must be sorted out. Bijlow is an interesting option when viewed as a replacement for Kelleher, and despite being just a year older than our current No.2, he is also far more experienced.

Bijlow has impressed in his time at the Eredivisie and, if injuries apart, was Arne Slot’s No.1 at Feyenoord last season. The Dutchman kept nine clean sheets and conceded just 23 goals in 24 games. When fully fit, the 26-year-old has been an asset for Feyenoord.

However, Bijlow would certainly have to be satisfied with a back-up role considering Alisson Becker’s unquestionable status as our first-choice goalkeeper. But if he can come in, keep himself fit, push Alisson to his best every day and take whatever opportunities come his way with both hands, the Dutchman could be a fantastic potential addition to the Reds’ goalkeeping ranks.
