Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr wants Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk with a big contract offered to his representatives

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is a transfer target for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr during the summer transfer window. Van Dijk has a year left in his current Liverpool contract but remains a pivotal figure at the club.

The Dutch captain resurrected himself last season, silencing his naysayers after facing criticism over his performance during the 2022-23 season. He displayed the form that was parallel to his early days at Liverpool as one of the world’s best defenders.

However, Liverpool continued to concede early goals last season which proved costly in the end despite Van Dijk’s fine form. The Reds cannot repeat their last season’s mistakes and they need to confirm the future of their top talents soon.

Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in their last year of the current contract which makes the situation dire. Liverpool cannot afford to lose top players for free as they work under a restricted budget and need practical decisions.

According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Al Nassr wants Van Dijk to bolster their squad and compete with Al Hilal. Al Nassr have already offered a massive contract to Van Dijk, potentially making him the highest-paid defender in the world.

Despite having Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane in their team, the Saudi giant failed against their invincible rivals Al Hilal. Al Hilal ended the season without losing a single match and beat Al Nassr in the Saudi Kings Cup Final.

The situation ended with Cristiano leaving the pitch in tears, prompting mockery and discussions about him in social media. Al Nassr needs to use the transfer window to make a statement while focusing on strengthening their defence.

At the same time, Liverpool are racing against time to decide the future of their man stars including Van Dijk. The Reds could capitalize on the necessity of Al Nassr and make a practical decision while leaving their emotions aside.

Van Dijk is a beloved figure among the Liverpool fans but they understand the reality of how the club has to operate to continue challenging the high-spending rivals. Nevertheless, they would be equally happy if the Liverpool captain opts to stay under a mutually beneficial contract extension.
