Liverpool want Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier amidst Firmino comparison

Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier is a transfer target for Liverpool during the summer amid comparison with Anfield legend Roberto Firmino. Beier enjoyed a prolific season with the German club as they finished seventh to qualify for the Europa League competition.

Standing at 1.85 metres, Beier has the physical build and athleticism to hold his own against strong defenders in the Bundesliga. The 21-year-old played dominantly as a centre-forward but he is capable of playing as a left-winger and central attacking midfielder.

The Germany international uses off-the-ball movements and takes a fantastic position in attack to exploit spaces between the opposition’s defensive lines. Beier makes many progressive carries and can beat defenders in one-on-one with deceptive pace and dribbling skills.

The 21-year-old is hard working off the ball which earned him comparison with Firmino as he puts constant press. Beier reads the game well which allows him to make sound tackles and block opposition passing in the threatening areas.

Beier has drastically improved his technical aspect of the game and enjoyed many goals and assists this season. However, he lacks aerial threat and needs to continue developing other aspects of his game to fulfil his immense potential.

The Germany international made 35 appearances for Hoffenheim in all competitions last season, contributing 16 goals and providing three assists. According to Sportbild (via Liverpool Echo), Liverpool wants Beier during the summer to bolster their attack for the next season.

New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has succeeded legendary manager Jurgen Klopp at the club with many changes anticipated. The Reds suffered greatly at the end of the last season due to poor finishing and a lack of attacking ideas.

Slot needs to make sure that the situation will not happen next season as he faces the daunting task of succeeding Klopp. Beier fits the profile that Liverpool desire in an attacker but a lot will depend on his price tag and where he fits tactically. Nevertheless, the German’s versatility and high work rate are a bonus if Liverpool decides to sign him.
