Pat Nevin unsure of what the future holds for Klopp favourite under Arne Slot

Andrew Robertson may need to prove himself all over again at Liverpool

Former Scotland and Chelsea midfielder Pat Nevin is uncertain over the role of Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson under new manager Arne Slot, as quoted in an interview with NewBettingSites.uk (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Andrew Robertson, 30, endured a tough last season with the Reds, with the Scot’s time on the pitch beset by injuries. This limited him to just 30 appearances across all competitions—including 23 Premier League outings—in Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge of the club.

The 30-year-old’s productivity also dipped, and after posting double figures in four other campaigns, he only managed two assists. In his absence, Joe Gomez deputised well and offered a reliable outlet at left-back.

That said, Robertson’s form and fitness heading into the 2024 Euros with Scotland isn’t great. Off the back of a poor campaign, Pat Nevin admits even someone of Robertson’s stature and experience will have to prove his worth in new manager Arne Slot’s system, although he will always have the Scot in his team if made in charge of Liverpool.

“Under Arne Slot, I’m not sure how he’ll play, as there will be changes. I don’t know exactly what will be expected of Robertson,” Nevin told in an interview with NewBettingSites.uk (h/t Liverpool Echo).

“Liverpool were a different team last season and Robbo didn’t create as many chances as he did in previous seasons – that’s not a weakness, just a change in style. There was no way he was going to create as many chances with the way they played, they had to adapt to the personnel.

“I’d always have Robertson in my team if I was a Liverpool manager.”

Under Jurgen Klopp, Andrew Robertson was one of the first names on the team sheet. He has been one of the best bargains during the Klopp era, proving his worth at Anfield with his energy, work rate, zeal, quality and leadership skills.

The Scotland international has performed consistently over the years, barring last season which was hampered by a four-month shoulder injury. Nevin is right in thinking Robertson has to prove himself all over again if he is to become a regular starter for Arne Slot’s time.

As long as we don’t sign a left-back this summer, Robertson should be the first-choice left-back provided he returns from the European Championships unscathed.
