Liverpool have contacted Atalanta midfielder Ederson’s camp

Liverpool have made contact with Atalanta midfielder Ederson few but are yet to open negotiations over a possible summer move, reports transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside.

Ederson, 24, played a starring role in Atalanta winning the Europa League in the 2023/24 season, with the Italian side beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the final in May. He was a key cog in Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, bagging six goals and an assist in 36 league games as La Dea qualified for the Champions League.

Liverpool have tracked the Brazilian midfielder’s progress by sending scouts last season. The Merseyside outfit got the chance to watch him closely this past season when he helped Atalanta beat them 3-1 on aggregate in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Ederson recently fuelled speculation about a potential move to England, claiming he is ‘curious about the Premier League’ following a richly successful season in Serie A. As per Fabrizio Romano, the situation between Liverpool and Ederson is quiet at the moment and there are no talks of an imminent bid.

“Liverpool made contact with his agents weeks ago but never started any negotiation, they didn’t send a bid so far, there are no talks ongoing at this stage,” Romano stated in his column for Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside.

“We have to see if they will include Ederson in their shortlist or not, it’s really early for this and there are no meaningful changes to the situation so far. Atalanta, meanwhile, don’t want to lose both Ederson and Koopmeiners.”

Liverpool ready to splash the cash on Samba star over former Arne Slot protege
Liverpool have Atalanta’s Ederson in their summer’s midfield shortlist.

Liverpool decided to shake up the midfield unit last summer as James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were replaced with fresh faces, including Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai. The Merseyside heavyweights are now eyeing quality signings this transfer window to boost Arne Slot’s plans in his debut season, including bringing in Atalanta star Ederson.

The Reds touching Ederson’s camp a few weeks ago suggests our concrete interest in the player. The 24-year-old, who has been called up to the Brazil squad for Copa America, would enhance Liverpool’s midfield unit and provide the necessary depth in the squad to compete in the Premier League and Champions League.

With many clubs interested in the Atalanta midfield powerhouse, including Manchester United, we must intensify our efforts to sign Ederson. While situation appears to be calm at the moment, things could escalate quickly if negotiations start.
