Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong is a transfer target for several top European clubs including Liverpool during the summer window. Frimpong enjoyed an incredible season under Xabi Alonso as Leverkusen won their first Bundesliga by finishing the league campaign unbeaten.
The German side registered only one loss in all competitions and that came against Atalanta in the Europa League final. Frimpong played a vital role as one of the prominent and productive attacking outlets for Leverkusen from the right side.
The Dutch international played as a right wingback in a 3-4-2-1 formation where he enjoyed a lot of attacking freedom. Frimpong can play at any place on the right side of the field from an attacking role to a defensive position.
The 23-year-old made 47 appearances in all competition for Leverkusen last season, contributing 14 goals and providing 12 assists. Even though Frimpong’s defensive output is questionable, his attacking qualities are immense as he is still reaching his peak years.
The Dutchman has incredible pace and dribbling skills to beat opponents and wiggle through the tight spaces with ease. Unlike many pacey prospects, Frimpong has the end product and the unpredictability in the threatening areas of the pitch.
Fichajes reported that Frimpong is a summer transfer target for Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. As things stand, Frimpong is happy to continue with Leverkusen despite the big interest in him from top football clubs.
The Reds want a worthy successor for Mohamed Salah who can compete with the other attacking options next season. Frimpong’s versatility and age fit the profile that the Reds prefer in a player but his demand could raise valuation.
Liverpool does not spend big money on players unless they are a necessity and other top clubs can pay astronomical wages to lure Frimpong. Nevertheless, Frimpong could establish himself under new Dutch head coach Arne Slot as the main attacking outlet from the right if Liverpool decides to sign him.
