Liverpool leverage Lijnders connection to land RB Salzburg sensation

Liverpool wants to sign RB Salzburg attacking midfielder Luka Sucic by using their connection with their new boss Pep Lijnders

RB Salzburg midfielder Luka Sucic is a transfer target for Liverpool, seeking to use their positive relationship with Pep Lijnders. Sucic played an important role for Salzburg but they finished second to eventual Austrian Bundesliga winners Sturm Graz last season.

Sucic is currently representing Croatia in the UEFA Euro 2024, playing a cameo in their 3-0 loss against Spain yesterday. The 21-year-old came on as a substitute by replacing Mateo Kovacic but Spain had the three-goal advantage by that time.

Standing at 1.85 metres, the Croatian international is an imposing figure in the midfield, having both strength and good athleticism. Sucic plays as an attacking midfielder or as a central midfielder, using his game-reading ability to influence the matches.

The 21-year-old is a roaming playmaker who uses his movements to exploit spaces between the opposition’s midfield and defence regularly. He has fantastic control and ability to make progressive carries while also having the strength to keep possession in duels.

Sucic is capable to operate in tight spaces and resist high-pressing from the opposition players while dictating the game’s tempo. His height and timely jumping allow him to win aerial duels and act as an aerial threat in set-piece situations.

As a playmaker, the 21-year-old has fantastic technique, vision and a knack for making regular key passes to open the defence. Off the possession, Sucic works hard to make recoveries and press the opponents to unsettle them in building up attacks.

According to Express, Liverpool wants to use their relationship with new Salzburg manager Lijnders and sign Sucic during the summer. Pep Lijnders is keen to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros, and a deal that benefits all parties could potentially happen.

While Sucic fits the profile and age that Liverpool prefers in a player, the Reds have plenty of attacking midfielders. Liverpool does not spend big money on players who are not a necessity and prefers giving opportunities to their academy talents instead.
