Liverpool tried their best to sign Juventus bound Michele Di Gregorio

According to the Italian publication Tuttosport, Liverpool made an eager attempt to sign Serie A goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio but still failed in their attempt, and the AC Monza stopper will be joining Juventus this summer.

Monza rejected Liverpool’s $27 million (£21 million/€25 million) bid for their 26-year-old goalkeeper, as he had already committed to joining Juventus. The Turin club hopes to complete a loan agreement with a buyout option next summer.

Juventus’ offer includes an immediate payment of €4 million for the loan period, with the remaining €16 million to be paid after February 2025, completing the permanent transfer. This structure allows Juventus to secure the goalkeeper’s services while managing their financial outlay over a more extended period.

In the goalkeeping department, Liverpool currently has three senior options: Adrian, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Alisson Becker. However, it’s unclear how many of them will still be with the club at the end of the summer.

Adrian has previously expressed his desire to leave the club this summer. Kelleher is also keen on moving away to secure a position as a number one goalkeeper elsewhere. Even Alisson is receiving links with the Saudi Pro League, adding to the uncertainty.

With Liverpool’s preseason training set to start next month, new manager Arne Slot will be busy evaluating his team as he commences his tenure at Anfield. Given the uncertain futures of the current goalkeepers, Slot is keen on ensuring a quality backup goalkeeper. This will be crucial for maintaining depth and stability in the squad as the club navigates the upcoming season.
