Bayern eye Joe Gomez’s signing this summer
The Mirror has reported that Liverpool star Joe Gomez has established himself on Bayern Munich’s radar as a potential summer target as part of the Bundesliga side’s squad revamp.
Vincent Kompany is interested in bringing Gomez to the Allianz Arena but it is understood that Liverpool have no intention in getting rid of the Englishman, who has a contract at Anfield until June 2027.
Gomez has been of paramount importance to Liverpool in recent years, specifically last season, as he played 51 times in all competitions and stepped into both full-back roles in addition to centre of defence.
The 27-year-old’s performances did not go unnoticed as he was included in Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad list for Euro 2024 with England going into the competition as one of the favourites.
Liverpool very much hold the bargaining power over Gomez’s future as they have tied him down to a long-term contract which has three more years remaining.
Moreover, they can ill-afford to lose an important defender following Joel Matip’s exit and Virgil van Dijk on the wrong side of his 30s. There are also doubts regarding the Dutchman’s continuity at the club.
His contract expires in June 2025 and there has been a stall in renewal negotiations with Liverpool at the back of interest from the Saudi Pro League for van Dijk’s signing as a free agent.
And while Gonzalo Inacio remains likely to arrive from Sporting Lisbon this summer, Liverpool need an experienced figurehead in defence. At 27, Gomez is exactly that with his best years still ahead of him.

Bayern have since turned attention to bringing in Jonathan Tah from defending Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, whose transfer to Munich could mean that Kompany’s outfit cools interest in Gomez.
