Reds in for stern competition for Chiesa’s signing
Liverpool have been interested in signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus for several months and are hoping to materialise a deal for the Italian international this summer.
He is seen as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who could be Saudi Arabia-bound at the end of his contract at Anfield next season to pocket a windfall in what might be the final move of his career.
Give Me Sport has reported that Chiesa’s signing will not come easy in any way as there are as many as four other clubs interested in acquiring the Euro 2020 winner.
Manchester United and Newcastle United will rival the Reds from within the Premier League, whereas Juve’s Serie A opponents, AS Roma and Napoli, are also exploring a move for the 26-year-old.
However, Chiesa would be ‘more than open’ to joining a Premier League side and Liverpool’s presence in the Champions League next season likely to give them the advantage over other English sides.
The 26-year-old bounced back from a nasty ACL injury to score nine goals and provide three assists for Juventus in Serie A last season, primarily featuring as a secondary striker.
Nevertheless, he is capable of playing on the right flank and can be Salah’s like-for-like replacement if indeed he arrives at Anfield in this summer’s transfer window.
Chiesa has paused talk regarding his club future for as long as Italy are competing in Euro 2024. He will need to be on top of his game if they are to defend their crown as European champions this summer.
Federico Chiesa is valued at €35 million, as per Transfermarkt, but the stiff competition for his services could likely push his price tag close to €50 million if not north of that amount.
