According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Brighton and Hove Albion have made contact with Leeds United to open talks over a potential deal for Liverpool-linked Crysencio Summerville.
Liverpool have maintained an interest in Crysencio Summerville in recent months. The Rotterdam-born attacker, 22, is coming off the back of a very rich campaign in the Championship, registering 21 goals and 10 assists in 49 appearances for Leeds United. He was named the Championship Player of the Season for his dazzling performances.
This has seen him attract a lot of suitors in the Premier League and the likelihood of a transfer increased last month when the Whites missed out on promotion to the top flight after tasting defeat at the hands of Southampton in the Championship play-off final.
Missing out on promotion and the prize money that comes with it could have huge financial consequences for Leeds United, who must now sell some of their valuable assets this summer to balance its books.
And it feels like Crysencio Summerville will be the first one to exit Elland Road, with Fabrizio Romano claiming on X that Brighton have started initial talks to explore the possibility of a deal, although it remains an open race with Liverpool monitoring him for some time now.
Brighton holding talks with Leeds over a potential deal for Summerville is bad news for Liverpool. With Mohamed Salah heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, Diogo Jota pretty injury-prone and Cody Gakpo blowing hot and cold last season, it is no surprise that the Reds have been scouring the market for a new wide-man.
Thus, the Merseyside club’s interest in Summerville is justifiable as he could be an option for the present and future. At 22, the Dutchman’s best years are firmly ahead of him and he is no alien to the challenges of Premier League football, having enjoyed a season in the top flight in 2022/23 and scored the winner against Liverpool at Anfield.
Just how up Summerville is on our summer transfer shortlist remains to be seen. One good thing, though, is that Brighton’s pursuit of the Leeds star could very well intensify Liverpool’s own interest if we do indeed want the player to join Arne Slot’s forces this summer.
