Liverpool will try their best to sign Leny Yoro from Lille if Real Madrid miss out
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has shared a transfer update on highly-rated LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro, claiming on Playback that Liverpool believes he will be a ‘fantastic player’ in the coming years.
New manager Arne Slot is preparing to start his spell at Liverpool after the exit of Jurgen Klopp. The Dutchman is aiming to reshape the squad in his own image this summer, with the club expected to back him wholeheartedly in the ongoing transfer window.
Among the club’s top priorities this summer, Liverpool are scouring the market for defensive reinforcements after the release of Joel Matip. They have been linked with several central defenders, including Lille’s Leny Yoro.
Leny Yoro, 18, has been a sought-after commodity heading into the summer market, with top European clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain vying for his signature. He has been superb for Lille and it is no surprise to see the defender attract interest from elite clubs.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool has no doubt about Yoro’s talent and if Real Madrid fails in their pursuit of the young defender this summer, they will jump at the opportunity to acquire his signature.
“Liverpool are there, Liverpool are interested in Yoro. Liverpool believe that Yoro will be a fantastic player. So, Liverpool have included Yoro in their shortlist,” Romano said on Playback.
“Liverpool are now waiting to see what happens between Yoro and Real Madrid. If Real Madrid will go strong on this one, they have the preference of the player.
“But, if Real Madrid decide against going strong on Yoro, in that case, Liverpool are among clubs really interested in the player. Also, Paris Saint-Germain.”
Liverpool need a young, quality central defender not only due to Matip’s departure but also because our defence was shaky at times last season. Virgil van Dijk remains arguably the best defender in the Premier League but is not getting any younger, while Ibrahima Konate remains vulnerable to injuries.

In addition, Jarell Quansah just had a taste of Premier League football and isn’t yet ready to start games regularly for the Reds. This makes the signing of a centre-back pivotal this summer and Liverpool remain in the hunt for Leny Yoro, who is among Europe’s best young centre-back and has the potential to succeed Van Dijk.
However, Real Madrid reportedly remain firm favourites for the young Frenchman’s signature, which is bad news for Liverpool and the fans.
